SLINTEC to bring nanotechnology into Alumex portfolio

Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) and Alumex have entered into a research agreement for the development of novel traits for Alumex’s aluminium product range. SLINTEC, which specialises in nanotechnology research and development, will look to apply advancements in the technology to develop characteristics that will make products stronger, last longer and stay cleaner which are all critical requirements within the industry. SLINTEC CEO Harin De Silva Wijeyeratne commented: “It is pleasing to note that one of Sri Lanka’s leading aluminium extrusion companies has decided to use SLINTEC as its research arm. We hope that our research work will enable local industries to meet the global challenges.” Alumex Managing Director Rohan Peris commented: “Investing in R&D is the only way we can come up with new features in our products that would give our local customers a better return and Alumex the ability to compete in the international markets. We are indeed very happy that we have got this opportunity to have the knowledge and facilities at SLINTEC available to us to move forward with this project.” SLINTEC is a public-private partnership between the Government of Sri Lanka and six private companies, namely MAS Holdings, Brandix, Dialog, Hayleys, Loadstar and Lankem. Its mandate is to add value to the Sri Lankan industries by helping them contribute to the GDP through innovations in nanotechnology and advanced technologies. Alumex belongs to the ‘World of Hayleys’ and is a fully-integrated manufacturer of aluminium profiles in Sri Lanka. Alumex is a market leader and develops and manufactures aluminium extrusions for an extensive range of applications such as fabrication of doors, windows, shop fronts, curtain walls and other specialised commercial applications. Present at the signing of agreements representing Alumex were their Managing Director Rohan Peris, Deputy General Manager Dr. Chandika Wickramatillake. Representing SLINTEC were CEO Harin de Silva Wijeyeratne, Science Team leader Prof. Veranja Karunarathne, Business Development Manager Dr. Himesh Fernando and the science team led by Dr. Dilushan Jayasundara and Rishvi Jayathilake
