‘Slovak Republic – Your next destination for business’ presentation on Wednesday

Marian Tomasik, Ambassador, Embassy of Slovak Republic in India will make a presentation on ‘Slovak Republic – Your next destination for business’ on Wednesday, 17 October 2012 at 9 a.m. at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The event would be an ideal opportunity to directly interact with Tomasik.

The Slovak Republic is a landlocked state in Central Europe. It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometers. The country’s capital is Bratislava and has a population of 5,440,000. In 2011 its GDP stood at US$ 95.99 billion and the currency is Euro.

Slovak Republic has a wide range of natural resources such as Antimony, mercury, iron, copper, lead, zinc, magnesite, limestone and lignite. Agricultural resources comprises of grains, potatoes, poultry, cattle, hogs, sugar, beets, hops, fruit, forest products. Types of main industries include iron and steel, chemicals, electro-chemical, automobiles, light industry, food processing, back-office support, engineering, building materials.

In 2011 its exports amounted to $64.5 billion and included machinery and energy equipment, electrical equipment, audio/video equipment, vehicles, base metals, mineral products, plastics and rubber, iron and steel, machinery and energy equipment, plastics. During the same period the imports stood at $63.4 billion with imports ranging from machinery, vehicles, electrical equipment, mineral fuels and oils, audio/video equipment to base metals.

Sectors in which direct foreign investments are made include machinery, industrial production, electrochemical, automotive, financial services, information technology (IT), wholesale and retail trade, transportation and telecommunications. (Source - World Bank)
