SLPA locates new operation equipment at JCT

The three brand new Gantry Cranes and six Transfer Cranes imported by Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in order to enhance efficiency at its Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) have been successfully unloaded from the vessel ‘ZHEN HUA 10’ and have been located ready for operations.

The new equipment will be utilised in operations at the JCT during the coming week. These latest state of the art operation equipment arrived at the JCT according to the agreements reached by the SLPA in May last year with the objective of boosting the productivity through enhanced efficiency of operations at the JCT. SLPA has already commenced to extend necessary training for the relevant employees on handling the new equipment.

SLPA entered into an agreement worth Rs.7200 million with the ZPMC in May last year to import 01 STS Gantry Crane of 65 tons capacity, 02 STS Gantry Cranes of 50 tons capacity and 24 RTG Cranes of 41 tons capacity. Although it takes about 16 months for the new machinery to arrive at the port following the placing of the order, SLPA has been privileged to receive the first batch of the machinery within 11 months.

The process of locating the first batch of new cranes arrived at the JCT last week and is carried out under the collaborative supervision of the engineers of SLPA and  ZPMC of China.
