A joint networking evening was organised by the Sri Lanka-Singapore Business Council (SLSBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Singapore (Sri Lanka) Club. The event was organised with a view to provide an opportunity for the members to interact with the Singapore expatriate community in Sri Lanka.

This is also in keeping with one of the objectives of the SLSBC as a facilitator of business opportunities for its members.

The event took place on 6 February 2013, at the Prima Tower. Over 80 members including members of the SLSBC and representatives of Prima, APL, Singapore Airlines and other Singapore based companies in Sri Lanka attended this event.

Republic of Singapore in Sri Lanka Consul General Jayantha Dharmadasa, attended the event while Director General of Commerce P.D. Fernando and Singapore Commerce/Commercial Officer (Designate) Deputy Director Sumedha Ponnamperuma represented the Department of Commerce.

Spear International Chairman/Managing Director Shamil Mendis, SLSBC President, SLSBC committee and Singapore (Sri Lanka) Club President J.S. Ong welcomed the members.

Following the successfully concluded trade and investment promotion missions to Singapore in the recent past, the SLSBC will be organising the next business delegation to Singapore during May 2013, in conjunction with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Singapore’s apex and largest business chamber.

The SBF with a membership of over 16,000 members will hold a seminar on business opportunities in Sri Lanka during the second week of May followed by a business matchmaking and networking session. On another initiative the council is also partnering with the National University of Singapore (NUS) on an internship program for the students of NUS to obtain professional experience as well as cultural and linguistic exposure in Sri Lanka with Sri Lankan companies.

The Council will explore a reciprocal arrangement for Sri Lankan students in Singapore.

The SLSBC inaugurated in 1997 as the 18 bilateral business council formed under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The prime objective of the council is to promote trade, tourism and to create an environment to enhance the commercial activity between Sri Lanka and Singapore as well as to facilitate investment by Singapore companies in Sri Lanka. From the time of its inception, the SLSBC has now grown to 60 members. The SLSBC is pleased to call applications from interested companies to be part of the above activities.  For more details contact the Secretariat on 0115 588 800/59 or E-mail on [email protected]
