Siedles Ltd., Sri Lanka’s leading electronic appliances supplier yesterday launched the new Sony Bravia high definition televisions to excite local customers.

Sony the forerunner of innovative technology has being one of the leading brands in consumer electronics, which has spread its wings in providing 3D entertainment for televisions. Sony Bravia LCD HDTV line includes 8 new 3D capable models and 14 Internet connected models.

Recognising the increasing influence of social media in the lives of people, Sony has struck up a nexus in social media and entertainment through Bravia. Therefore, Sony has redefined television not only as an entertainment item but also as a tool, which provides access to social media.

“Redefining the TV”- Bravia has made paradigm shifts in TV technology due to its  unprecedented networking facility, 3D and high definition picture quality,” Sony South East Asia Bravia Product Manager Canice Koh said.

The new Bravia line is equipped with internet TV which delivers access to online entertainment including YouTube, Daily Motion etc., through a Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. For easy access of Social Media, widgets and applications can be downloaded and it also provides the consumer to simultaneously get real time updates from facebook or skype without having their TV viewing interrupted. He also said, one of the most unique features is that all Bravia models are skype embedded where users can have widescreen video calls and this can also be done simultaneously while watching TV.

Sony the undisputed leader in 3D technology gives a unique experience in picture quality to the viewer through Intelligent Peak LED Backlight control. This technology uses local dimming for deeper blacks while also boosting brightness in lighter scenes where the picture is projected with high quality contrast. Another improved facility that Bravia caters to is reducing the blur caused by quick camera movements through Sony Motion Flow technology.

In improving the functionality and the ease of access of Bravia TVs, Sony has  being able develop the remote control  to the next level by  using  media remote applications on iPhone and android mobile devices in controlling media on TV.

The sleek, ultra modern Monolithic design in Bravia TVs is carried forward in the new line.  This time it has incorporated with Cornings Gorilla Glass which ensures a thinner, lighter and a stronger screen material for durability.

At the launch Koh told the Daily FT that as the recent economic conditions of the world traditional economic powerhouses in the West are in recoil, Sony was looking for new markets in catering their products.

“Sri Lanka is a main market in South Asia, which Sony has focused upon in increasing business,” he added.

Siedles Ltd., Managing Director Nimesh Udeshi indicated his optimism of the growth of the electronic appliance industry in Sri Lanka. He emphasised that the growth of India, the high population and the high economic growth of the Sri Lanka can bring many opportunities to the country. After the dawn of peace, the revival of the tourism industry has brought a new demand in electronic appliances.
