B.T.M. Kevin Perera has been appointed as the first Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The official procedures of the appointment were completed on 10 December at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi in the presence of Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Vietnam K.G. Ivan Amarasinghe. Perera has been a resident of Vietnam since 2004 and is the Regional Director (Far East) for Expolanka Freight (Vietnam) Ltd.   He has been a major link between southern and northern Vietnam, assisting the Embassy to overcome distance barriers between the two parts of the country. Over the years, he has built strong links between Sri Lanka and Vietnam as the President of the Sri Lanka Sports Club in Ho Chi Minh in southern Vietnam, where the largest Sri Lankan community in Vietnam resides.   Furthermore, he has developed a profound knowledge of official and protocol procedures in the performance of his voluntary services to welcome a multitude of dignitaries and officials from Sri Lanka to southern Vietnam. His generosity in social assistance to visiting Sri Lankans and his knowledge and experience with Vietnamese trade partnerships are well known. The new Honorary Consul says he is keen to develop new avenues for promoting people-to-people contacts and commercial activities and thereby consolidate the robust relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
