Sri Lanka-Belarus bilateral FOC focus on increasing bilateral cooperation

Sri Lanka and Belarus held bilateral Foreign Office Consultations during the recent visit of a Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin B. Rybakov. The second round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two countries was held on the sidelines of the first session of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation on 10 July 2014, at the Ministry of External Affairs in Colombo. The Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Minister paid a working visit to Sri Lanka on 8 - 10 July 2014. Belarus-Sri Lanka business forum and first session of the Joint Belarusian-Lankan Commission on Trade and Economic cooperation, as well as the second round of Belarus-Sri Lanka Foreign Office consultations were held during the visit. During the consultations the two sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and the educational fields. Main attention was given to the development of political contacts at the high and highest levels and increasing cooperation in trade, economic and industrial fields between the two countries. Foreign economic activities, foreign policy and investment cooperation, prospects for increasing exports, and development of industrial cooperation were among other issues discussed at the meeting. Belarus and Sri Lanka noted the significant potential for further growth of trade between two countries. The two sides also exchanged views on major issues of regional and global agenda, as well as discussed cooperation between the two countries in international organisations. The next round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) will be held in Belarus in 2015.
