Sri Lanka Ceramics and Glass Symposium from 16 March

Sri Lanka Ceramics and Glass Symposium 2013 organised by the Sri Lanka Ceramics Council will take place on March 16th and 17th, 2013 at the Taj Samudra Colombo.

The event under the theme of “Today’s Vision: Tomorrow’s reality” has already attracted over 100 participants and is conducted under an impressive program.

It will be inaugurated at 6.30 p.m. by Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Italy’s Ambassador. Key note will be delivered by Dr. N.P Wijayananda, Chairman, Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.

Technical sessions will be held on Saturday 16 March.

Morning session titled “In quest of excellence” will be chaired by Prema Cooray, Managing Director, CCC Solutions Ltd., and its presentations will be “Government’s Role in Promoting Public & Private Partnerships in Research & Development” by Professor Sirimali Fernando, Science Advisor to Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs; “Industry Branding – A Case Study” by Ruchi Gunewardene, CEO, STING Consultants, “Manufacturing Excellence” by Sanjay Tiwari, CEO & Executive Director, Piramal Glass Ceylon PLC and a Supplier Presentation by Imerys Tableware New Zealand Limited.

Session two titled “Advancing towards efficiency” will be chaired by Professor Sirimali Fernando,  Science Advisor to Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs. Under it, the presentations will be “Nurturing Relationships in the Employment Sphere in Meeting Future Challenges” by Kanishka Weerasinghe, Deputy Director General, Employers’ Federation of Ceylon; “Looking At the Fundamentals, A Need of All Times for Ceramists” by Dr. U. Farook, General Manager, Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC; “Managing Health & Safety in Industry” by Dhammika Welhenge, HSE Manager, Litro Gas Lanka Limited. It will also have supplier presentations each by “Bone China in Today’s Industry” by David Slinn, Global Ceramic Material, UK, and “Digital Printing Technology” by SITI B&T, Italy.

The post-lunch session will be titled “Acknowledging the essentials” chaired by Dr. G.A.S. Premakumara, CEO, Industrial Technology Institute. Presentations include “Technology Innovation for Sri Lankan Ceramic Industry” by Dr. Muditha Yapa, Head of John Keells Research, John Keells Holdings; “Synthesis of Ceramic/Polymer Nano-Composites of Hydroxyapatite Ceramic Powder and Chitosan Biopolymer for Tissue Engineering Applications” by Dr. U. Adikary, Senior Lecturer, University of Moratuwa, Supplier Presentation–“Kaolin Clay KC-188 for Tableware and Whiteness Fluxing Agent SP 8 For Polished Tile” by Zhou Ping Nan, General Manager, Jiangxi Sincere Mineral Industry Co., Ltd, China, and Supplier Presentation on “Regarding Frit and Pigment” by  Liu  Renquan, General Manager   Zibo North - Jewel Ceramic Material Co.,Ltd, China.

Space for action is the title of the final session of the Sri Lanka Ceramics and Glass Symposium and will be chaired by Dr. Bandula Perera, Deputy Chairman Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.

Presentations include Life Cycle of Metals – Lead and Cadmium by M.A.S Chandrasiri, Senior Deputy Director, Sri Lanka Standards Institution; a presentation by Laugfs Holdings Ltd; “Partnering For Sustainability through Industrial Waste Management” by Chamila Herath, Business Development, Geocycle and Supplier Presentation by Litro Gas Lanka Ltd
