Sri Lanka, having overcome terrorism that troubled the country for nearly three decades, is a nation proudly enjoying peace and solidarity under a stable government today.

With prospects for the country vastly improved, the government has embarked on a massive development drive to invigorate the economy and achieve the country’s development objectives such as creation of employment opportunities, improving the standard of living and more importantly to spread these benefits to the grass-roots level in the regions.

“Considering the present conducive environment prevailing in the country, the Export Development Board has taken the lead in organising Sri Lanka Expo 2012 to promote Sri Lakna’s economic development activities in trade, investment and tourism,” says Export Development Board (EDB) Chairman and Chief Executive Janaka Ratnayake.

Sri Lanka Expo 2012 is a mega trade, investment and tourism promotion initiative to be staged from 28 to 31 March, at the BMICH, under the theme ‘Partnering with the Hub of Asia.’

The Expo is a unique combination of an international exhibition, symposia, business meetings and other corporate events.

EDB which is the apex body for export promotion and the principal organiser, will collaborate with other key stakeholders both in the private and the public sector to conduct this national event under the patronage of the Government.

The exhibition will be a spectacular showcase our high quality products and services on a single platform.

The array of products and services on display will demonstrate our strengths in state of the art technology, on green and ethical manufacturing practices and also our capability to offer products and services meeting all international standards.

The exhibition comprises 350 stalls and over 1000 international buyers from key strategic markets are expected to attend the event.

“Visitors will have access to the best selection of Sri Lanka’s exporters and discover the finest products and services ranging from Ceylon Tea, ethical garments and gems to Business Process Outsourcing under one roof,” says Ratnayake.

The event will provide substantial impetus to make Sri Lanka a hub in the Asian region as envisaged in the ‘Mahinda Chintana.’

Technical sessions will be held during this period by industry experts and key note speakers will cover salient topics of interest such as the advantages and the facilitated process behind Sri Lanka’s conducive trade and investment climate.

The country’s many facets as a tourist destination will also be highlighted.

The first two days of the exhibition will be exclusively reserved for buyers to negotiate business with our exhibitors and place orders to buy our products and services, while the next two days will be open to the public.

The EDB cordially invites the general public, specially our entrepreneurs, to visit the Exhibition and experience for themselves the comprehensive range of high quality products and services that we offer to the international market, and also gain exposure on various facets of an international event of this nature.
