Sri Lanka Nordic Biz Council to promote more bilateral deals

A number of measures to promote bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Nordic countries will be adopted in the year ahead, revealed Majid Awn, President, Sri Lanka Nordic Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Nordic Business Council (SLNBC) held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently.

Among these measures are organizing a trade and investment promotion mission to Nordic countries, working together with Sri Lanka Seated from left:  Sarath Weerasooria-Alpha Industries Ltd.., Jon Otto Brodholt- Charge de Affairs of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Majid Awn – President, Kamani Bartholomeusz- The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Nazvi Hassan- Vice President, Kamil Wijesinge -Vice President Standing from left: Melani Rajakaruna of Tos Lanka Co. Ltd, Kanishka Samaraweera - Microcells Ltd, Duleeka Sri Nandalochana -John Keells Computer Services LtdTourism to initiate joint promotions to the Nordic Region, organizing seminars and luncheons with eminent speakers, and establishing a rapport with Sri Lankan embassies in the Nordic Countries, in order to promote trade, tourism, exchange of information and to study/promote technology transfer ideas between the Nordic countries and Sri Lanka.

Jon Otto Brodholt, Charge de Affairs of the Royal Norwegian Embassy was the Chief Guest at the event.

Sri Lanka - Nordic Business Council  was formed in April 2001 with a primary objective of promoting  trade,  investment  tourism and services  between Sri Lanka and the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) and to promote mutual understanding and to strengthen relations between Sri Lanka and the Nordic countries.

Majid Awn Managing Director, Wilhelmsen Meridian Navigation Ltd was re-elected as the President and Kamil Wijesinge of Grip Nordic Ltd., and Nazvi Hassan, Chemanex PLC were elected as Vice Presidents of the Council for the period 2012/2013.

The Executive Committee elected comprised, Sarath Weerasooria, Alpha Industries Limited, Mrs. Bobby Jordan Hanssen of Columbus Tours Ltd, Duleeka Sri Nandalochana of John Keells Computer Services Ltd, Kanishka Samaraweera  of Microcells Ltd and Ms. Melani Rajakaruna of Tos Lanka Co. (Pvt) Ltd.
