Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L Peiris has approved the appointment by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Pretoria of Elmo Jayetileke as Sri Lanka’s first Honorary Consul in Zambia. Jayetileke is a Chartered Accountant who was a former partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Zambia. He currently works as the Chief Financial Officer of the Finance Building Society and it is envisaged that he will assist the Pretoria High Commission to develop the relationship between Sri Lanka and Zambia. Shehan Ratnavale, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pretoria, South Africa, concurrently accredited to Zambia, presented Jayetileke on 29 July 2013 the commission letter appointing him as Honorary Consul in Zambia. At this meeting, it was indicated that with the perspective of the longstanding Sri Lankan community in the country, opportunities should be explored for Sri Lankan personnel and companies to provide services in the new copper belt being opened in the north of the country. Zambia’s plans to implement an extensive hydropower generation scheme also open opportunities for Sri Lankan companies specialising in mini hydropower. Accordingly, Sri Lankan companies and Chambers that wish to do business with Zambia may contact Jayetileke at the Honorary Consulate based at Great East Road, Northmead, Lusaka, Zambia or at Finance Building Society, third floor, Chanik House, Cairo Road, Lusaka, Zambia. Tel: 00260 0966770832, mobile: 00260 0977770832, e-mail: [email protected] or alternatively through the Sri Lankan High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa.
