Educational toys have always been commended by parents and childcare experts for the engaging manner, in which they retain the attention of children.
Plex, an innovative range of educational toys developed and manufactured in Sri Lanka by Kiddies & Toys International (KTI), has been able to reinvent the power of the educational toy in Sri Lanka, by offering a range of products that invite children to think, create, experiment and get involved in.
Available at leading supermarkets, departmental stores and toy stores, Plex has today grown into a range that is also exported to the Maldives.
Plex holds a unique position as a toy chosen by parents and liked by children. As all intelligent and educational toys do, Plex encourages children to combine creativity and motor skills.
Plex is made from raw materials sourced locally, that meet global safety standards and paint that is non-toxic, Plex has grown from a basic range into a fairly comprehensive range that includes a Fix-It Metal range and the Hobbies range.
“As a brand that encourages the children and even the entire family to play together, Plex has grown and expanded,” says Dilsha Ruwanpathirana – Asst. Brand Manager – Toys Division – KTI. “Plex encourages children to think and create, using their imagination. Today’s parents encourage children to play with Plex more and more. Also, Plex combines interests such as hobbies and creating mechanical sets that allow children to engage positively.”
A Sri Lankan innovation that maybe called a modern version of the beloved Meccano sets of a previous era, Plex is thoughtfully packed in reusable containers that encourage children to pack the toys away.Plex comes with simple and clear instructions that are child friendly and easy to follow. “As a locally manufactured range of educational toys, Plex has captured the interest of children and parents due mostly to its flexibility. It involves creating something, following instructions. It can connect with children at a deeper level and is capable of engaging the children for a considerable amount of time,” added Ruwanpathirana.
The Plex range includes the Fix-it Metal that allows the child to build his or her own special creation, using skills of exploration and reasoning, structural thinking and creative application, skills considered relevant for children growing up today.
The nuts and bolts that put Plex Fix It toy systems together enable children to use their hands and their thinking processes simultaneously. Plex Fix-It Metal kits are made up of various sizes of metal strips and are rounded sans sharp edges, making them ideal for the children to play with.
Ruwanpathirana says that Advanced Plex Fix-it Metal kits are ideal for the entire family who can join in.
“More kits can mean longer, more improved play times that fathers, mothers and children can be involved in,” she says. “For the parents, it is a great opportunity to be able to buy everything needed for a creative art project with Plex, instead of having to go in search of several different project ideas.”
Priced at Rs. 550 upwards, The Plex Hobbies range encourages children to develop hobbies such as painting and decorating and adds a new dimension to the concept of educational toys. The range also enables children to use the mediums of clay and ceramic to paint on.
There will be new products launched soon under the Plex range while there are plans to extend the construction range as well. On the whole, Plex has added a newer dimension to toys, in keeping with the modern parental beliefs that educational toys will always be the preferred choice for children to play with.
