Sri Lanka’s talent pool to get reality check at Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2016

‘Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2016’ will commence its second and final day with a session dedicated for a reality check on the country’s existing talent pool, with the participation of top corporate executives and government officials, both from local and overseas.

The session 5 of the summit ‘Growing Sri Lanka’s talent pool – Reality Check and Pragmatic Options’, has lined up Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia Deputy Secretary General Dr. Mohd Gazali Abas and Google India Managing Director Rajan Anandan delivering the keynote speeches.

Dr. Mohd Gazali, who will start the session with a keynote speech holds a PhD in economics from the Waseda University, Japan, and was once the Director of the Human Capital Development Section of the Economic Planning Unit, of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department.

RajanAnandan, who will follow Gazali with another keynote presentation is responsible for Google sales and operations in the South Asian region and has held leadership positions in globally acclaimed firms such as Microsoft, Dell and McKinsey before joining Google.

Following the keynote speeches, Brandix Lanka Chief Executive Officer Ashroff Omar, Virtusa Chief Operating Officer Keith Modder and Sanken Lanka Managing Director Ranjith Gunatilleke will join in for a panel discussion, which would be moderated by Echelon Magazine Editor-In-Chief Shamindra Kulamannage.

Among the panellists, Ashroff Omar is a leading industrialist and a prominent figure in the local apparel industry. Omar was a key player behind the formation of the Joint Apparel Association Forum of Sri Lanka and once functioned as the head of the forum. Keith Modder, a 25 year veteran in the IT industry has been with Virtusa since 2001 and has also worked for the John Keells Group where he simultaneously held the Managing Director/Chief Executive positions for an IT systems integrator and office automation company. 

Ranjith Gunatilleke has been with Sanken Construction since its inception. An engineer by professional, his expertise and liaisons in the field of engineering had been proven to be a source of strength for company’s performance.

The session, ‘Growing Sri Lanka’s talent pool – Reality Check and Pragmatic Options’, will look at the new talent and skill needs of Sri Lanka and also the required policies and possible strategies that needs to be adopted to meet the demand.
