Sunil Wijesinha appointed new Chairman of United Motors

Sunil Wijesinha has been appointed as the new Chairman of United Motors Lanka Plc Ltd. He succeeds Ranjith Fernando who stepped down recently. UML also announced the appointment of Hiroshini Fernando as a Director to the Board. Wijesinha is a production engineer, an accountant and has an MBA. He has specialised in industrial engineering, productivity and is a well known proponent of Japanese style management techniques, having pioneered the introduction of some of them in Sri Lanka. He has held many CEO positions in State sector organisations and private companies in addition to serving on boards of directors. Wijesinha is currently the Managing Director of BizEx Consulting Ltd., Chairman of Watawala Plantations, Employers Federation of Ceylon, President of National Chamber of Commerce, President of Sri Lanka Association of the Advancement of Quality and Productivity and Deputy Chairman of Sampath Leasing and Factoring Ltd. He is also a director on the boards of Asiri Surgical Hospitals and DFCC Vardhana Bank. He serves as a member on the National Labour Advisory Council, the National Administrative Reforms Council and the Senior Minister’s Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Innovation. Fernando, who holds over 19 years experience in the finance field, is a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. She currently holds the position of an Executive Director at Readywear Industries Ltd., RIL Property Ltd. and Videowall Ltd. She is also a partner at A&T Associates and a Director at RIL Trust. Following the new appointments, the Board of United Motors Lanka comprises S.G. Wijesinha (Chairman), C. Yatawara (CEO and Executive Director), A.W. Atukorala, A.C.M. Lafir (Executive Director –Finance), M. Yokoi, R.H. Yassen (Executive Director – After Sales Service) and H. Fernando.
