Garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka have an opportunity to build contacts with leading textile companies from Taiwan at an exclusive textile fair opening in Colombo today.

The Bureau of Foreign Trade & Taiwan Textile Federation through its representative agency Worldex India Exhibition & Promotion (Pvt) Ltd. has organised a textile and garment products exhibition in Colombo at the Taj Samudra, on 30 and 31 October 2012.

This event is endorsed by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and supported by Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) and Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA).

The garment industry is the biggest contributor to the export sector in Sri Lanka, accounting for nearly 45% of the country’s total export earnings.

Worldex India Exhibitions and Promotions Ltd. Director Arti Bhagat said Taiwan’s textile industry accounts for US$ 12 billion and has a reputation for functional fabrics like sportswear, fashion and medical clothes, etc. She added that leading textile companies from Taiwan will be exhibiting a wide range of textile products at this event.

This is first exhibition of this type in Sri Lanka and it will showcase a variety of products ranging from knitted fabrics (jacquard, lace, mesh, jersey), sporting socks, functional socks, stockings, tights, panty hose, gloves, tapes, cotton grey fabrics, cotton yarn, children wear, high performance woven fabrics for casual sports, functional fabrics for outdoor and sportswear, woven fabrics for casual and city wear, poly yarn dyed, nylon yarn dyed, zipper, slider, zipper making machine to interlinings, etc.

She added that over 100 garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka including the biggest players had already registered for the exhibition, which was a clear indication of preference of the business entities (importers, exporters, buyers and retailers, etc.) to directly interact with each other.

She was optimistic that not only large scale manufacturers but also small and medium level textile manufacturers would be able to get the maximum benefit from this exhibition.
