Thilanga to represent Government at WTO-TFCTN Parliamentarian Workshop on International Trade

MP Thilanga Sumathipala left for Singapore yesterday to attend WTO-TFCTN Parliamentarian Workshop on International Trade representing the Government. John Amaratunga (MP) of UNP will be representing the Opposition.

The workshop will be held from 4 to 6 May 2011 at Marina Mandarin Hotel and is organised by World Trade Organisation and Temasek Foundation Centre for Trade & Negotiations.

WTO rules and the New Realities of a Globalised World Trade, Dynamics of Negotiations in the WTO, Managing Disputes over Trade, Regional and Bilateral Trade Agreements, Opportunities and Challenges for Developing Countries: Aid for Trade and Capacity Building, e-Government in Singapore & Climate Change and Trade are the areas which will be covered during the workshop.

Benedict Cheong (CEO TFCTN), Keith Rockwell (Director, Information & External Relations, WTO), Dr. Deborh Elms (Head, TFCTN), Said El Hachimi (Counsellor Information & External Relations, WTO), Dr. Patrick Low (Chief Economist, WTO) Ambassador See Chak Mun (Senior Advisor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore), Ambassador Karen Tan (former Singapore WTO negotiator), Dr. Henry Gao (Associate Professor, School of Law, Singapore), Margaret Liang (Advisor TFCTN), Ng Bee Kim (Director General – Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore), Amanda Melanie Kendall ( Acting High Commissioner, British High Commission in Singapore), Dr. Ganeshan Wignaraja (Principal Economist), Ambassador Muhamad Noor (Executive Director – APEC Secretariat), Subash Bose Pillai (ASEAN Secretariat), David Siah (Business Development Director, Crimson Logic), Peter Govindasamy (Director, International Negotiations Division, Singapore Ministry of Trade & Industry) and Abdullah Bin Tarmugi (Speaker of Parliament of Singapore) will be the key speakers of the workshop.
