Tissa Jayaweera takes reins of FCCISL as 16th President

Tissa Jayaweera took reins as the 16th President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka FCCISL at its 36th Annual General Meeting held on 15 November 2010 at the FCCISL Auditorium.

Jayaweera, a member of the FCCISL Council since 1996, was inducted the Senior Vice President and appointed to the Board in October 2008. He is the present Chairman/CEO of AIMS (Pvt) Ltd., Global Focus (Pvt) Ltd., TJ Associates, Alexander Polyclinic (Pvt) Ltd. and also the Chairman of Chelsea Enamels (Pvt) Ltd., Adviser Japan Asia Investment Company Ltd. and Lionvert Holdings Inc, etc.

Jayaweera, an eminent personality in the corporate sector, was the former Chairman/Managing Director, Lanka Ceramic Ltd., Noritake Lanka Porcelain (Pvt) Ltd., Lanka Walltile Ltd., Lanka Tile Ltd., Lanka Refractories Ltd. and ITMIN Ltd. He is the present Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka and President of the Sri Lanka Bangladesh Business Council as well.

A dynamic personality, with a proven track record in business and entrepreneurship over 36 years, Jayaweera will bring in a wealth of experience and innovative ideas, which will be of immense benefit to the chamber movement of Sri Lanka.

Known for his out-of-the-box thinking, astute business acumen and penchant for taking up challenges, he is sure to bring a novel turnaround at the federation, which augurs a new beginning for the future of the chamber movement of the country.

An individual with vast international exposure and contacts, and competency in business management, he will undoubtedly be a vibrant and bold leader to steer the federation to greater heights in the coming years.

With a strong commitment towards future, Jayaweera’s vision on FCCISL to be the apex body of chambers and associations of commerce and industry, champion the promotion of business excellence in Sri Lanka.

To make this vision a reality, he will continue FCCISL’s mission to make enterprises of Sri Lanka specifically SMEs competitive regionally, nationally and internationally, providing comprehensive and innovative support towards social and environmental responsibility, while adding optimum value to stakeholders.

Kumar Mallimaratchi, Vice President of the FCCISL appointed to the Board in 2008, was inducted the Senior Vice President at the AGM. Kumar was the former President of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka and the Chairman of the Ceylon Hotels Corporation.

He is the present Chairman of Tourism Training Centre, Managing Director of Associated Hotels Company & Leisure Solutions Plus Company.  He is also a board member of SMED and member of Statutory Accounting Standards Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL).
