Trade delegation from Dubai for ‘Reflections of Sri Lanka’

Twelve member business delegations from Dubai will travel to Sri Lanka to participate at the ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ exposition on trade, tourism and investment parallel to CHOGM from 13 to 17 November 2013. The Dubai delegation, which includes seven members from the Sri Lanka Business Council in Dubai, will be led by Al Mutaiwei Investment LLC Chairman Obaid G. Al Mutaiwei and coordinated by Sri Lanka Business Council Chairman Farook Kassim. Al Mutaiwei has more than forty years of experience in Dubai, GCC and globally he is a visionary who recognised early that education is cornerstone for any country to succeed. He has partnered with several universities in UK, bringing Middlesex University to Dubai, Greenwich University to Sri Lanka and Buckingham University to Kenya. He is the Chairman of Al Mutaiwei Investments, and one of few rare investors who has invested in Sri Lanka even without visiting the Island In addition, three member delegations from Fujairah Chamber of Commerce also will participate at the “Reflection of Sri Lanka 2013.” Ambassador of Sri Lanka in UAE Dr. Mahinda Balasuriya and Consul General of Sri Lanka in Dubai and Northern Emirates Abdul Raheem met members of the business community in Dubai and encouraged their participation at this important event. The strategic thinking behind ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ is to leverage the opportunities provided by CHOGM as a platform to illustrate Sri Lanka’s capacity to easily integrate with global value chains. ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ will showcase Sri Lanka’s trade, tourism and investment potential to the astute global visitors who are visiting the country for Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) sessions from 13 to 17 November. Official engagements for the visiting Dubai delegation have been arranged in coordination with EDB and the Department of Commerce including meetings with Ministers and Secretaries to the Ministries. In addition, meeting with private sectors including factory visits has also been arranged for the visiting businessmen from Dubai. Visit of Dubai businessmen to CHOGM event is expected to boost Sri Lanka’s trade expansion with UAE.
