The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is a leading global professional body associated with the logistics and transport industry. Established in UK in 1919 and having received the Royal Charter in 1926, the institute has an exciting history but is always adapting to stay consistent with current logistics and transport issues. The institute holds unparalleled international recognition and works towards achieving its objectives of promoting and encouraging the art and science of logistics and transport through its membership and its educational qualifications. With a global membership of over 33,000 from 32 countries across the globe, CILT provides a professional identity to those in the ever expanding logistics and transport sector. It is a strong, active and a unified professional association that is able to speak with authority on strategic issues affecting businesses and people in the industry and support their careers. The CILT conducts its annual convention in a member country in rotation every year and Sri Lanka hosted the convention in June 2013 after it gained the territorial status. This year’s convention was held in the State of Melaka in Malaysia from 1 to 6 June 2014 in the presence of over 200 foreign delegates from 24 of its member countries. The CILTSL delegation numbering eleven comprised of its office bearers and senior members led by its Chairman Niral Kadawatharachchie attended the Convention 2014 in Malaysia. The International Management Council (IMC) meeting is the prestigious assembly held during the convention which is attended by many international members and at this meeting the IMC recognises and felicitates individuals who contribute to the institute in formulating its strategies and maintaining the decorum of the institute. Saliya Senanayake, a Senior Fellow Member of CILT from Sri Lanka was awarded with the Pegasus Medal at this distinguished assembly acknowledging commitment shown by him during his tenure of four years as the International Vice President (IVP) for the region. Pegasus Medal is given to members of the Institute for ‘distinguished and meritorious service’ to the institute. With Saliya Senanayake relinquishing his duties as the IVP, Professor Amal Kumarage another Fellow member from Sri Lanka was appointed to this position as the new IVP for the region, securing the high image of the Sri Lankan territory and in recognition of his contribution to uphold CILT’s mission. Amal Kumarage is a Senior Professor from the University of Moratuwa and has contributed immensely to uplift the standards of the institution. He was one of the key contributors to win the territorial status for CILT Sri Lanka in 2012 which has been established in 1985 and incorporated in Sri Lanka by the Parliamentary Act no 08 of 2000. The convention in Malaysia was a success with formulating of new strategies for the institution especially in the fields of education services and harmonised guidelines for membership.
