Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Yan released a figure at the press conference on the 13th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 13th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) held by the State Council Information Office of China this July: By the end of May 2016, the two-way investment between China and ASEAN had accumulated over $ 160 billion. ASEAN has become a major destination for Chinese enterprises to invest abroad.
The Chinese government endeavours to promote enterprises to invest in the ASEAN countries, which not only allows enterprises to create wealth, but also brings benefits to the ASEAN people. Such win-win stories are told at the CAEXPO every year.
The 13th CAEXPO, to be held from 11 to 14 September in Nanning, Guangxi, China, will open her arms again to welcome participants from all over the world.
This year Sri Lanka has been selected as the special guest country of CAEXPO.
The encouraging figure is the best evidence of the remarkable outcomes of the fast-growing two-way investment cooperation between China and ASEAN.
The 13th CAEXPO to be held this September will continue to set up the Pavilion of International Economic and Industrial Cooperation and the Pavilion of Advanced Technology. The exhibiting enterprises of the former mainly engage in Chinese cutting-edged industries including international project contracting, labour cooperation, resources development, information technology, energy development, infrastructure construction, industrial park development, etc.
Those of the latter are in advanced manufacturing, smart city, innovation and entrepreneurship and international innovation, to showcase Chinese major scientific and technological achievements during the 12th Five-Year Plan and ASEAN technology innovations. The setup of the two pavilions is to deepen and expand the two-way investment cooperation between China and ASEAN.
Every year, the Investment and Fund Raising Seminar arranged at the CAEXPO is flooded by renowned Chinese and ASEAN enterprises. China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co. Ltd., a CAEXPO Golden Exhibitor, is one of the largest beneficiaries. Wang Changming, the representative of the company told the reporter, “Via the platform of CAEXPO, we restructured three companies in Liuzhou, Guilin and Hezhou, three cities of Guangxi, and totally invested RMB 6 billion in the ASEAN countries, scoring remarkable outcomes.”
“We choose the CAEXPO for its influence in China and ASEAN can help us attract potential leading investors,” said an official of the Laos Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone at the 12th C1AEXPO.
A large number of Chinese enterprises have explored the ASEAN markets through the CAEXPO investment promotion programs. A series of cooperation projects have been launched in recent years, including the Vietnam Song Con Hydro-power Plant by Guangxi Electric Power Exploration and Design Institute, a modified cassava starch and tapioca chips processing factory in Vietnam by Guangxi State Farms Mingyang Biochemical Group, INC and China-Indonesia Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone by Guangxi State Farms Group Company Ltd., etc. China and ASEAN have reaped more and more fruits of bilateral investment cooperation.
When addressing the opening ceremony of the 12th CAEXPO, Zhang Gaoli, Vice Premier of the State Council of China, said, “We should further strengthen the China-ASEAN industrial cooperation.”
With strong complementarities and huge potential, industrial cooperation has become a hot spot of the China-ASEAN investment cooperation. A series of programs for international industrial cooperation were held at the 12th CAEXPO for the first time last year. Agreements on 34 industrial cooperation projects were inked at the CAEXPO signing ceremony.
At a specialised project matching program, representatives of more than 60 Chinese enterprises had face-to-face talks with those of the industrial parks, investment promotion agencies and project owners of the ASEAN countries, including Sino-Thai Rayong Industrial Zone, Cambodia Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, Indonesia Industrial Park, Myanmar Mingaladon Industrial Park and Philippine Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone, reaching cooperation intentions of 11 projects on site.
According to the official of the CAEXPO Secretariat, above-mentioned programs will continue to be arranged at the upcoming 13th CAEXPO. Government officials, representatives of international financial organisations, experts, scholars and business elites of the ASEAN member states and other countries along the Belt and Road will be invited to join these programs, to discuss the priority fields of and approaches to implement the international industrial cooperation.
Renowned Chinese enterprises have reportedly confirmed to join the upcoming 13th CAEXPO as exhibitors, including Aluminium Corporation of China, China International Water and Electric Corp., China National Machinery Imp. and Exp. Corp., China Road and Bridge Corporation, China Railway Oriental International Construction Corp., China Electronics Corporation, CRRC Corporation Ltd., China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co. Ltd., State Power Investment Corporation, China Datang Corporation, and China Southern Power Grid. In addition, foreign economic and trade departments and investment promotion agencies of Chinese major municipalities and provinces including Beijing, Tianjin, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, etc. will also organise delegations to this event.
Jean Pierre Girard, President of Finance Committee of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Isere, French, visited the 10th CAEXPO in 2013. He highly praised the CAEXPO as an investment platform and said, “The CAEXPO provides a good platform for the exchanges and dialogues of the business professionals around the globe. With diversified programs in such an open manner, this event will create numerous opportunities.”
A host of high-end forum and conferences will be held on the sideline of the 13th CAEXPO as usual, to promote investment exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN and create more business opportunities for the enterprises of the two sides.
Those investment promotion events and programs include the 2nd Forum on Promoting International Industrial and Equipment Manufacturing Cooperation of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, CAEXPO Roundtable Meeting on Investment, Promotion Conference on ASEAN Industrial Parks, China-ASEAN Infrastructure Cooperation Forum 2016, Chinese Economic and Commercial Counsellors in the ASEAN Countries Meet and Talk with Entrepreneurs, promotion conferences on investment climates of the 10 ASEAN countries and major Chinese provinces and municipalities, investment and fund raising seminar and project matching program for industrial cooperation, Seminar on Financial Support for Chinese Enterprises to Invest in ASEAN, etc.
By then, political dignitaries, scholars and business tycoons will gather together to discuss development and cooperation schemes and share the latest information.
Guangxi Investment Group Co. Ltd. is another beneficiary of the CAEXPO investment promotion programs. Chairman of the Group Feng Liujiang said, “We have accumulatively invested RMB 30 million in ASEAN. Thanks to the CAEXPO, our investment projects cover more and more fields and seize more business opportunities in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
A series of sideline programs will be arranged to open more channels to boost the investment exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN, thus to score richer the economic and trade outcomes.
Pre-matching service will be provided for the participants. The Organiser will arrange on-site matching programs, in line with the expectations of the exhibitors and buyers written on their application forms and arrange buyers or buyer missions to tour the Exhibition, so as to allow the participants to share the latest industrial information and strengthen the interactions of the Chinese and ASEAN enterprises, thus to ensure they will have more fruitful trips to this event.
Supporting facilities and services will be further improved. The 13th CAEXPO will enjoy larger exhibition size and space, as new exhibition halls have been put into use at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center (NICEC), the main venue of the event. Supporting facilities of the CAEXPO will be further improved and more business-friendly services will be provided in pass-issuing, catering, transportation, security check, exhibit delivery and customs clearance.
Wide-ranging media coverage will be made. Sources from the Organiser show that the more than 170 mainstream and industrial media from China, ASEAN and other countries will come and cover the 13th CAEXPO and its sideline events, to disseminate Chinese and ASEAN investment climates and policies and business information. The new Press Centre at the NICEC will provide more friendly services for the media to make news coverage.
