Uber, the on-demand technology company that has transformed the way people move in cities, has completed a year of operations in Colombo.
“When we launched Uber in Sri Lanka back in 2015, it was an exciting alternative to get around the city. Today, Uber has fundamentally changed the way we move in Colombo. With thousands of journeys and economic opportunities created, we are impacting lives while celebrating this beautiful island and pretty excited to keep building our journey in Sri Lanka,” said Uber India South and West and Sri Lanka General Manager Bhavik Rathod.
In just one year of operations in Sri Lanka, Uber has expanded its coverage area, started accepting cash as a payment option apart from debit/credit cards; introduced uberGO – a low-cost hatchback option in addition to uberX and continue to provide mobility to thousands of riders across the city.
Riders have over this past year enjoyed engaging on-demand activities such as UberCHOPPER and UberPUPPIES; participated in UberCARE as Uber worked alongside the Colombo Municipal Council and the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to help those affected by the floods in May earlier this year. They received Silver for ‘Successful Use of Technology’ in the BTL Category at the Asia-Pacific Customer Engagement Forum and Awards for UberSURPRISE – an on-demand luxury ride experience with Mercedes-Benz and Saatchi & Saatchi for Valentine’s Day.
