Uber, the innovative smartphone app that seamlessly connects riders to drivers, has launched cash payments as an option in Colombo. With this riders will now have the option to choose between credit or debit cards or cash when paying for Uber rides.

“We know that cash is still the dominant payment option for people around the world, especially in emerging economies. The cash experiment in Hyderabad last year was extremely successful and resulted in the roll out of this option in several other cities, around the world, with Colombo, being the 131st city to offer this option. At Uber, our goal is to ensure everyone can enjoy the hassle-free convenience of ordering a safe, reliable ride at the push of a button. By giving riders cash payments as an option, we are able to better meet the needs of a rapidly growing and fast-evolving consumer base.” said Uber General Manager - South & West, India & Sri Lanka BhavikRathod.

Over the last year and half, Uber’s product and engineering teams have worked tirelessly to create a seamless cash payment experience that is truly Uber. Last year, Hyderabad was selected as the first city for this experiment, followed a few weeks later by the second global city to test cash, Nairobi and now with Colombo, Uber will be offering the CASH option in more than 130 cities around the world.

Riders will have access to all the current Uber features and more when it comes to paying for their ride. Riders need to simply choose the CASH payment option, take a ride and pay their driver directly in cash at the end of the trip.

Some riders might not immediately see the option as the feature will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks.

Uber has enjoyed tremendous support in Colombo. With products such as uberGO and uberX, riders in Colombo have access to a variety of reliable, convenient and safe transportation alternatives and cash further expands that universe.
