UBM India flags off India-Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Growth Forum

UBM India recently hosted the India-Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Growth Forum 2015 at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. The one-day conference aimed to accelerate the growth of renewables in the region through collaboration and technology and product share. The conference, bringing together key decision makers and leading professionals addressed policy, technology, finance and other important drivers for increased deployment of renewables, leading to energy security and economic growth. The inaugural ceremony was represented by eminent renewable energy expert, Nobel laureate and energy advisor to Sri Lanka Government, Prof. Mohan Munasinghe delivering the keynote address. The Climate Group (India) Director Krishnan Pallassana delivered the inaugural address. Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Deputy Director General (Strategy) Harsha Wickramasinghe delivered the keynote address and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Secretary General/CEO Mangala P.B. Yapa delivered the Special Industry Address. The speakers at the conference included some of the leading Indian names like PTC India Financial Services Ltd. Director Dr. Pawan Singh, Greenko Group COO Vinay Kumar P., Welspun Energy Ltd Business Development Senior General Manager Anurag Jain and Urja Gyan Foundations Chairman D. Radha Krishna, amongst others eminent industry speakers. The India-Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Growth forum comes at a critical time when there is a global trend towards massive deployment of solar power and other renewables and investments worth billions of dollars in clean technology and green energy are eyeing suitable projects. Power packed presentations were made by Soltech Equipments Managing Director T. Sriraman and Phocos India Ltd Managing Director V. Shanmugam, on Off Grid Products Applications and Advantages; Bonfiglioli Renewables Power Conversion India Ltd Head – Technical Senthil Kumar Kalliyamoorthy, on Opportunities in Solar Sector and International Consultant – Biogas Managing Director, Biotech Renewable Energy Dr. A. Sajidas presented Decentralised waste to electricity projects using Biomethanation technology. Another interactive session on Realising the True Potential of Rooftop Solar and Off-grid Solutions was presented by Urja Gyan Foundations (Session Moderator) Chairman D. Radha Krishna, Sure Energy Systems Ltd. Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed, ECCO Electronics Ltd. Chairman Satish Jha and J. Lanka Technologies Ltd. Director Gune Jayasoma. Innovative financing options and risk mitigation was also addressed by PTC India Financial Services Ltd Director Dr. Pawan Singh, Welspun Energy Ltd Business Development Senior General Manager Anurag Jain, Greenko Group COO Vinay Kumar P., Urja Gyan Foundations Chairman D. Radha Krishna and KPMG in Sri Lanka Principal – Tax & Regulatory Suresh R.I. Pereira. Gamesa Wind Turbines Ltd Assistant Vice President – Solar Operations S. Subbian presented the Technological Development and Road Map for Wind. The event also witnessed an interactive session by Green Building Council (Sri Lanka) Technical Director Architect Ravihansa Chandratilake and Principal architect - Ravihansa Chandratilake Architects and Darshan Galliya, Technical Secretary to Chairman, Beltron Telecom Green Energy Systems Ltd on how to Achieve the goal of Green Cities. The event gains further significance in the light of the recent visit of the President of Sri Lanka to India and visit of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka on 13 March. UBM India annually hosts India and Asia’s most popular Renewable Energy India show at Greater Noida, India.  The expo attracts more than 500 exhibitors, several international pavilions, 15,000 trade visitors besides workshops and multi track conference sessions.
