The first and the oldest Rotary club – Colombo – celebrating UN day yesterday invited former National Portfolio Development Head for United Nations Operation for Project Management Dr. Rohantha Athukorala as the guest speaker on the theme ‘Has the UN justified its existence in Sri Lanka?’
The speaker, who sits on many private sector and Government boards as Director, asserted that there was no debate since the UN in Sri Lanka had played a pivotal role in supporting the Government of Sri Lanka in achieving the MDG goals set by the global community.
“In fact Sri Lanka is a model country in South Asia on its achievement of Millennium Development Goals and now it will be about how the UN and its agencies support an SME-driven budget which the country needs in 2015,” commented Dr. Athukorala.
