The Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation and the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama was the Chief Guest at the seminar and launch of the Asia Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2013 yesterday at the Institute of Policy Studies. Dr. Amunugama was presented with the report.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Asia Pacific Trade and Investment Report (APTIR) for 2013, ‘Turing the Tide Towards Inclusive Trade and Investment’, was launched at the seminar, followed by a discussion on recent developments in trade and investment in Sri Lanka.
Turning towards inclusive trade and investment for Sri Lanka must necessarily involve key aspects of international openness. A panel of Sri Lankan experts discussed the desirable policy directions in trade opening policies including FTAs, trade facilitation, foreign direct investment policies promotion of small and medium sized enterprises transfer of technology, and also complementary policies for trade and investment to deliver inclusive development in the country.
