Unilever’s Ceytea Factory wins at SLNQA 2013

Unilever Sri Lanka’s Ceytea Factory in Agarapathana emerged Merit Award winners in the ‘Medium Scale Manufacturing” category at the Sri Lanka National Quality Awards 2013, presented by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute. The Ceytea team accepted the award at a glittering ceremony held at the BMICH on 14 October. Speaking about this achievement, Saurabh Lal, Manufacturing Director at Unilever Sri Lanka, stated: “We are honoured to have received this recognition. The Sri Lanka National Quality Awards gives manufacturing operations an opportunity to showcase our efforts amongst our peers in the industry and serves as a tool for managing performance levels.” He added: “Throughout the past year, the Ceytea team has worked diligently to enhance the knowledge of employees on quality management, and provided guidance on the proper implementation of systems and documentation, which is a key criteria in obtaining the Food Safety System Certification. The team has undergone rigorous checks and identified and closed gaps thus creating a secure, high quality operation at the Ceytea Factory. It is their commitment, hard work, and team spirit that have led to this recognition today.” The Unilever Ceytea Factory, legally known as Premium Exports Ceylon Ltd. (PECL), is Unilever’s ‘instant tea’ factory located in Agarapathana and functions as a strategic unit of the Lipton Ice Tea supply chain, supplying over 70% of the Ready to Drink volumes sourced by Pepsi Lipton International. Organised and implemented by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, the Sri Lanka National Quality Awards, recognises quality excellence in the sectors of manufacturing, services, education and healthcare. Awards are given to small, medium and large scale operations, based on seven key areas such as ‘Leadership,’ ‘Strategic Planning,’ ‘Customer Focus,’ ‘Measurement/Analysis/Knowledge Management,’ ‘Workforce Engagement,’ ‘Operational Focus’ and ‘Results’.
