Union Bank and SLCSMI announce 2013 Industrial Excellence Awards

Union Bank of Colombo PLC is the principal sponsor for the 2013 Industrial Excellence Awards conducted by the Sri Lanka Chamber for Small and Medium Industries (SLCSMI).  At a press conference held at the Chamber, the SLCSMI announced that the awards ceremony will be held on 17 June 2013 at the Waters Edge, Battaramulla.

This event recognises the outstanding performance of small and medium industrialists and is held for the 8th year and will also coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the SLCSMI.

Union Bank Director / Chief Executive Officer Anil Amarasuriya, stated that as a Bank focused on delivering financial solutions for small and medium businesses, this partnership between Union Bank and SLCSMI further demonstrates and exemplifies the Bank’s continued and growing commitment to support the SME sector. He commended the service rendered by the SLCSMI to develop and support the SME sector in Sri Lanka and assured the Bank’s support and commitment to future initiatives as well.

SLCSMI President Aloy Jayawaradane, stated that through Union Bank the SLCSMI received in excess of 650 applications from small and medium industrials for the 2013 Industrial Excellence Awards from all parts of the island. The Industrial Excellence Awards is an initiative of the SLCSMI which provides an opportunity for SMEs to demonstrate their business success and further empower them to grow their businesses to new heights as well as enhance their image. The winners were adjudged by a panel of representatives from the Board of Investment (BOI), Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, University Body and Union Bank of Colombo PLC.

The Chamber of Small and Medium Industries (SLCSMI) which was established in 1963 is an independent, non-profit and non-political voluntary body, supporting members through start up loans, advisory and training facilities for the effective development of businesses in the Small and Medium Industrial Sector.
