Union Bank principal sponsor for Industrial Excellence Awards

As the preferred bank for Small and Medium Industries, Union Bank of Colombo PLC has pledged its support for the second consecutive year as the principal sponsor for the Industrial Excellence Awards 2014 organised by the Sri Lanka Chamber of Small and Medium Industries (SLCSMI) recognising business excellence of entrepreneurs. Union Bank Director/Chief Executive Officer Anil Amarasuriya stated, “We are pleased to partner the SLCSMI to sponsor the 2014 Industrial Excellence Awards which provides yet another opportunity for SMEs to demonstrate their business success and further empower them to grow their businesses to new heights. Union Bank is focused on delivering enhanced financial solutions for Small and Medium businesses and this partnership between Union Bank and SLCSMI further demonstrates and exemplifies the bank’s continued and growing commitment to support the SME sector.” The event has been held for eight successive years and has recognised business success of entrepreneurs from diverse industries. With UBC partnering the event in 2013, over 1000 applications were received island wide. Applications will be available from 25 June 2014 at all Union Bank branches island wide and the SLCSMI office in Colombo. All SMEs are encouraged to participate in this event and the closing date for all entries is 31 August 2014. The winners will be adjudged by a panel of representatives from the Board of Investment (BOI), Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, University Body and Union Bank of Colombo PLC. Awards will be presented under the categories of Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. There will also be special provincial awards and a Union Bank customer award. SLCSMI President Mohideen Cader stated, “We are proud to have Union Bank join us for another term as the Principal Sponsor of the 2014 Industrial Excellence Awards. We anticipate an overwhelming response from participants this year as well and with the support of the Union Bank’s branch network, we will be able to reach entrepreneurs across country and offer them the opportunity to participate in this national award.” SLCSMI has served the SMEs in Sri Lanka for over 50 years. Union Bank, the preferred bank for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), has recognised the positive cascades that emerge with the establishment of a vibrant SME sector and has therefore continuously focused on strengthening and growing the SMEs in the country. Union Bank currently has 58 branches across the country offering SME customers customised financial solutions.
