University of Ruhuna signs landmark MoU with South China Sea Institute of Oceanology

Marking another milestone, the University of Ruhuna early this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Science, People’s Republic of China.



The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna Senior Professor Susirith Mendis and Deputy Director South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Science, Dr. Dongxiao Wang.

The official ceremony took place in the Senate Room of the University of Ruhuna, Matara.

Professor Mendis welcomed the distinguish delegates and emphasised that the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology was the only faculty in Sri Lankan university system to engage in marine sciences and oceanography.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Zhongli Ding, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences , mentioned the importance of this agreement and possible future cooperation with the University of Ruhuna.

Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology Dean Dr. Tilak P.D.Gamage gave a brief introduction about the university and faculty, indicating the future expansion of the faculty.

Dr. Wang mentioned that this was a historic event and future Indian Ocean expedition would be conducted with the Faculty of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake concluded the meeting by delivering the vote of thanks and recalled the history of Indo-China relations.
