UNP resolves leadership crisis

The main Opposition United National Party yesterday finally resolved its leadership crisis after three rounds of contentious talks in its Working Committee.

At yesterday’s breakthrough meeting the Working Committee decided Ranil Wickremesinghe will remain the leader whilst existing Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya will share the post with leadership aspirant Sajith Premadasa. For the latter creation of two deputy leader positions was agreed upon.

Sources said Premadasa was also  appointed as the deputy opposition leader.

The other office bearers in the UNP were unchanged though no appointment was made to the posts of national organizers.
