In response to a request made by the Advanced Construction Training Academy (ACTA) and Training Institute for Technology Professionals (TITP) a comprehensive training program was conducted covering all major areas of wood sector, by Leema Creations Ltd. Managing Director Channa Wijesekara for wood working instructors of VTA and DTET at Leema’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Malinda, Kapugoda.

Ashoka Jayasinghe, ACTA Director Indrani Perera and TITP Director D.K. Baminiwatta have invited Leema Creations to assist in upgrading the knowledge and skills of wood working instructors, principally due to the availability of one of the most sophisticated manufacturing plants with modern machinery and equipment. Channa Wijesekara, having obliged to the invitation designed the training program to ideally suit the participants.

When training is seen as an ongoing, constantly evolving process, ‘Trainers’ who are undergoing training are more willing to participate. In order to be assimilated easier, information must be connected, follow a logical thread. An instructor who is trained to be more responsive, more open and more motivated to learn is the one that will achieve success in work life.

It is a well-known factor that the trainer makes the difference in any training program. Choosing the proper trainer is the first thing to be considered. It’s important to note that no matter how well prepared, organised and animated a training session is, Trainees will recognise and respond accordingly to how the information has been delivered. Thus, a well-prepared, creative and experienced trainer that speaks with an open mind is a must for the success of a training session. Wijesekara, with his overseas exposure on training and recipient of Technical Teachers Certificate in Wood Technology from the Government of Germany in addition to the 37 year experience in the wood industry as a lecturer, manager, production manager, trainer, and an entrepreneur filled all the criteria for the knowledge hungry participants.

Wijesekara, as a skilled trainer believes that provide information and skills in a form that can be used immediately. “A clear link must be drawn between the knowledge given during training and the necessary skills that employees will gain to perform their daily work. This way they will be more motivated to engage actively in the sessions and develop new skills,” says Wijesekara.
