Vidullanka PLC, one of the lead players in the renewable energy industry has commissioned the Haloya MHPP, its fifth mini hydro power plant.

The plant has a  800 kW capacity is based on the “run of the river” methodology and is expected to deliver 2.65GWh of energy to the national grid, thus  increasing  the contribution of Vidullanka  to the national grid to 29 Gwh. The project is a joint venture between Vidullanka and Vanguard Industries (Pvt) Limited.

Vidullanka is presently constructing two mini hydro power plants with a gross capacity of 3.8 MW. The 1.3 MW power plant is located in Ratnapura District and upon commissioning, the power plant is expected to supply 5.21 Gwh of energy to the national grid. Meanwhile the second power plant under construction is located in Galle District and has a design capacity of 2.5 MW. Once commissioned, the power plant is expected to deliver 10.12 Gwh of energy to the national grid.

Vidul Engineering Limited, the subsidiary of Vidullanka has emerged as a successful Total Turnkey Solution provider to the renewable energy industry. In addition to Vidullanka owning projects; it also renders power plant design services for many other mini hydro power projects under construction. One such project is the Branford MHPP owned by Aitken Spence Group where the gross head of the power plant is below six m. The project was successfully commissioned in April 2012.

Vidul Engineering has been the market leader in managing power plants of the holding company as well as external parties. Having a vast pool of technical resources and dedicated team, trouble shooting and repairs are done with a fast turnaround, thus reducing plant downtime. Vidul Engineering Limited also carries out feasibility studies for hydro and wind power projects in Sri Lanka and overseas.

Presently Vidul Engineering Limited has started manufacturing power plant control panels and governors under Vidul Control Solutions, to provide total electrical controlling solutions required for power plants.

The Governor Control through the control panels was first developed and introduced by Vidul Control Solutions, which has already supplied the electro mechanical components to two mini hydro power plants since its introduction in 2011. Engineering team at Vidul Engineering limited is further strengthened with the addition of D.F.M. Perera, a veteran Structural Engineer with over 35 years of experience.  He is currently involved as Structural Engineering Consultant to all the projects undertaken by Vidul Engineering Limited.

He has vast experience in various spheres and has acted  as the team leader for designing of several land mark buildings projects in Sri Lanka including a 22-storied Colombo Secretariat Building, 14 storied Air Force Head Quarters Building, and the 14 storied Asiri Hospital Building are just to name a few.

Vidullanka is involved in research and development of new methodologies for power plant automation which it believes to be the next generation evolution in the Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Industry.
