The Virtual Learning Network (VLN) developed by Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) was launched by Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga.
The VLN aims at establishing an online facility to conduct training programmes and seminars for public officers across the country with the participation of other interest groups in the society.
The new methodology introduced for the first time in Sri Lanka for public officers will increase and enhance their capability and support them to become confident users of video conferencing and other communication technologies.
Speaking at the occasion, Weeratunga said it is very important to provide an equal opportunity for public servants to enhance their knowledge through the use of modern technology. They will be able to keep abreast with the global information flow and develop their inter-personal skills by using this modern method he said, adding that this initiative will be a launching pad for government officials to acquire knowledge and skills that are suitable for today’s fast growing world.
Inaugurating the new technique public officers from Badulla, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Matara, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya interacted with the Secretary via video conferencing at the SLIDA auditorium.
Master trainers who successfully completed a training course conducted by Civil Service College in Singapore were awarded certificates by the Secretary.
