Walkers CML Properties Ltd., a fully-owned subsidiary of MTD Walkers PLC partnered with the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division of the Road Development Authority to educate the general public on the importance of adhering to highway safety rules and regulations.
During the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Period, from 9 to 14 April each highway user was handed a safety leaflet detailing precautionary measures to ensure a safe journey. The leaflet, designed by the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division detailed general safety guidelines which included the maximum speed allowed on the highway and proper overtaking techniques.
“We are proud to have had this opportunity to partner with the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division to promote highway safety to the general public,” said Walkers CML Properties Ltd. CEO Lalinda Kalubowila, explaining the commitment of Walkers CML to sustainable highway development in Sri Lanka.
“The volume of traffic during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was unprecedented. Through extensive training programs and planning, the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division was fully geared to handle this volume without any incidents,” said Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division Director Eng. Saman Opanayake.
Speaking on the collaboration he further adds, “Highways are still relatively new to most motorists in Sri Lanka and it is critical that highway safety is clearly communicated to all entering the highway. We are grateful to Walkers CML Properties Ltd. for partnering with us to ensure public safety and we look forward to a long standing partnership.”
