The Sri Lanka Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) achieved a new milestone with the signing of a historic MOU with the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce. The event took place at the Bahrain-Sri Lanka Business Forum in Manama, during the recent state visit of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The WCIC delegation was lead by the chairperson Dr. Saroshi Dubash along with Rifa Mustapha, Vidyani Hettigoda, Mumtaz Siriwardena and Kumari Hapugalle Perera. The MOU was signed by Khalid Abdulrahman Almoayed, Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Saroshi Dubash, Chairperson of the Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka. The MOU which consists of 14 clauses aims at strengthening and enhancing business relations between the two chambers as well as forging economic ties, technological support and human capacity for mutual benefit of their members. Exchange of market information, creation of new market opportunities, mutual matchmaking by finding suitable business partners, exchange visits, promoting business through exhibitions, trade fairs, road shows, meetings, seminars, conferences and exchange of trade delegations and development of appropriate structures for the organisations for continuous effective management are some of the relevant features of the MOU. Amongst the WCIC delegation were ladies who have distinguished themselves in diverse fields of business and they were fortunate to be introduced to counterparts in similar business fields in Bahrain with promising business development opportunities. The WCIC is an organisation dedicated to promote and assist women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka in every way possible to set up and develop their businesses. They have made giant strides in the past few years and are making concerted efforts to educate and encourage women entrepreneurs in areas liberated after the end of the long conflict.
