WISTA SL, CASA to hold shipping conference in May

The Sri Lankan Chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) is a management level networking association for women in the maritime sector. WISTA Sri Lanka has been able to successfully complete its calendar of events fulfilling its objectives of networking and encouraging women in the maritime and international trade sectors.

The Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA) is the voice of the shipping industry in Sri Lanka. CASA celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.

This year WISTA Sri Lanka in partnership with CASA are taking a giant step to host the ‘WISTA/CASA Asia Pacific Conference – 2016’ in Sri Lanka. 

The conference will be attended by the WISTA international board, Members of CASA, WISTA and the Shipping industry of the Asia Pacific region including Sri Lanka. The conference will include time appropriate topics related to our industry delivered by imminent speakers from both the international and local arena. 

The conference takes place on Friday, 6 May followed by a grand gala dinner. South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd. is the Corporate Partner for this event.

The conference will be based on the theme ‘Global Maritime Trends – Can Asia Lead the Recovery?’

The conference will include time appropriate topics related to our industry delivered by imminent speakers from both the international and local arena such as Julian Bevis, Senior Director – Group Relations, Asia A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, M. Premachandra – MD, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Jeanne M. Grasso, Partner, Blank Rome LLP and WISTA Ex Co Board Member, USA and Karin Orsel, President WISTA International, Vice Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping, Board member of the International Seafarers Welfare Association Network and CEO of MF Shipping Group

Organisers said this is a great opportunity for the Sri Lankan maritime sector to highlight the strategic positioning of Sri Lanka as a maritime hub in the Asia-Pacific region as will be discussed at length at the conference, along with other topics such as maritime law, shipping and ancillary services, and the trends of the future.
