When the new Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce stated in his address last week that “what Sri Lanka requires is new ways of doing business but in the right way,” the thought that crossed my mind was how this needs to be done and what the operational model will be, given that I have been in the economic development arena.
Maybe an option could be to lean on one of the most powerful concepts that the modern world has seen recently, like the Blue Ocean Strategy.It was conceptualised by two respected personalities called Chan Kim and Ranee Mauborgne, who said that one way to win in the entrenched competitive marketplace of today is by creating an uncontested marketplace and making competition irrelevant.
