Amãna Bank recently relocated its Akurana Branch to a more spacious and customer friendly location at No. 204/1 Matale Road, Akurana amidst a gathering of distinguished invitees and customers.

With the relocation, Amãna Bank’s Akurana Branch offers added facilities such as an exclusive ladies unit, extended banking up to 4 p.m., safety deposit lockers and also houses a gold safekeeping unit through which the bank offers a Sharia compliant alternative for conventional pawning.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Azmeer stated: “Amãna is not new to Akurana. We realised the potential of Akurana and wanted to serve the people of Akurana close to a decade ago in October 2005. Since then we have developed a strong relationship with the people of Akurana and our business in Akurana has been growing.  Today, with our relocation to this new premise, we are now equipped to serve our customers from Akurana with added convenience and a wider array of service.”

Commenting on the added facilities, Azmeer said: “Akurana will be the first branch outside of Colombo to be housed with an exclusive ladies unit, providing greater privacy and comfort. Also with the introduction of the gold safe keeping facility, we will be able to improve the financial inclusiveness of this area.”

Amãna Bank is the first Licensed Commercial Bank in Sri Lanka to operate in complete harmony with the non-interest based Islamic banking model and is listed on the Diri Savi Board of the Colombo Stock Exchange. The Bank was recently recognized as the World’s Best ‘Up-and-Comer’ Islamic Bank by ‘Global Finance Magazine’ at the 18th Annual World’s Best Banks Award Ceremony 2014 held in Washington DC, USA.

Powered by the stability and the support of its strategic shareholders including, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, AB Bank in Bangladesh and the Islamic Development Bank based in Saudi Arabia, Amãna Bank is making strong inroads within the Sri Lankan banking industry and is focused on capitalizing the growing market potential for its unique banking model across the country.
