Union Chemicals Lanka PLC (UCLL) has been awarded the prestigious title of “The Winner” in the Chemical, Ceramic and Glass (Manufacturing) Category at the Best Management Practices Company Awards 2025, organized by the Institute of Chartered Professional Managers of    Sri Lanka. This accolade underscores the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the chemical manufacturing industry, positioning it as a leader in the sector.

At the Entrepreneur Awards 2024, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, the company was honored as the Best Enterprise in the Industry/Manufacturing Sector - Large Category and received the title of Best Energy Efficient Enterprise, reflecting company’s operational effectiveness, commitment to energy conservation and sustainable manufacturing practices.

In Sri Lanka’s chemical manufacturing landscape, Union Chemicals has established a reputation for operational excellence and sustainability. The company has received various awards and recognitions, reflecting its commitment to comprehensive business practices. Notably, Union Chemicals won “The Winner Award” in the Manufacturing – Chemical, Ceramic & Glass sector at the National Business Excellence Awards 2024, where it was also recognized as the “Runner-up” within the Medium Category. Additionally, Union Chemicals was awarded the Bronze Trophy in the Chemical Industry category at the Presidential Environment Awards 2024, recognizing its dedicated contributions to environmental conservation. This accolade, organised by the Central Environmental Authority, underscores the necessity of sustainable practices in the chemical sector, further establishing Union Chemicals as a role model in environmental stewardship.

Union Chemicals Lanka PLC is a leading chemical manufacturing company in Sri Lanka, It commenced operations in year 1984 and established in Sri Lanka for over 41 years.  Company is certified by ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management system standard and ISO 14001:2015 Environment Management system standard by SLSI. It follows Responsible Care guidelines applicable for Chemical Manufacturing and has the honor of holding Responsible Care logo offered by Sri Lanka Responsible Care Council.  

UCLL product portfolio comprises of binders for interior and exterior decorative paints, wall fillers and joint compounds, Pigments dispersing agents and synthetic thickeners. It also supplies water proofing binders for the construction industry and for water proofing Paints. Company sells a wider range of adhesives from normal stationary applications to most difficult surface bonding adhesives. It also produces adhesives for wet lamination purposes as well as binders for pigment printing applications in textile industry.  

Union Chemicals Lanka PLC supplies fifteen different water based wood coating products to the market under the band “U-coat” fulfilling wide range of customer requirements. The product range includes seven different colour stains Jack, Teak, Mahogany, Walnut, Black, Vaneer Wenge and Satain wood. The end user has the choice of selecting Top Coat Gloss, Matt and Supper Gloss finishes depending on their aesthetic desire. It also provides U-coat products for both Wooden and Titanium floor finishers.  The company achieved its “Eco label” recognition for U-coat under Type 1 Eco labelling scheme, based on the requirements laid down in ISO 14024:2018 Environment labels and declarations. 

In addition to the products manufactured locally, Union Chemicals trades a series of supporting chemicals to Paint, Cosmetic, & Detergent industry etc. The Company represent seven multinational organisations including Dow Chemicals and Eastman Chemicals in Sri Lanka.

The company concerns entire life cycle of the product when it designs and develop new products. The life cycle of the new product covers from acquisition of eco-friendly raw materials until the product is safely consumed by the customer.  Green initiatives have been taken for its operation process so as to eliminate VOC release to the Environment.

Company has taken steps for efficient water resource consumption and conservation which are analysed quantitatively by water foot print calculations.  Company also taken steps to efficient energy utilisation and conservation which are monitored by sophisticated energy monitoring system implement at the factory premises.  Company has its well-defined Waste Management system in line with resource utilisation.
