Towards unleashing the creative imagination of young writers to pen their dreams, Amana Bank is excited to unveil an all-island essay competition under the theme ‘My Future, My Dream’.
This competition, endorsed by the Ministry of Education, is designed to inspire and showcase the creative talents of young minds of the nation between the ages of 8 and 16.
Participants can express their thoughts and dreams on their future ambitions, where essays can be submitted in either Sinhala, Tamil or English with word limits varied based on two age categories. Children aged 8-12 are invited to craft a compelling essay of up to 250 words, while those aged 13-16 are encouraged to submit essays of up to 400 words.
The competition promises not only an opportunity for self-expression but also the chance to win exciting prizes, with rewards given to the top essays under six categories based on language and age. Six first-place winners will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, followed closely by a reward of Rs. 30,000 for the second-place winners. Additionally, five other exceptional essays will be awarded Rs. 10,000 from each category, acknowledging the outstanding talent displayed by young winners. Winners will be adjudicated by an eminent panel of judges consisting of university lectures and school teachers.

To participate in the competition, young aspiring authors can submit their essays either via e-mail sent to [email protected]; via post sent to 486 Galle Road, Colombo 3; via WhatsApp message sent to 0711756756 or by handing over at any Amana Bank’s branches before 31 July. Submission should include the full name, school, date of birth, contact number, address, along with the name and signature of the participant’s parent/guardian.
