Anverally & Sons, one of the largest tea exporters in Sri Lanka, gave physical expression to the phrase ‘tea and sympathy’ when it donated a consignment of tea to the people of Beirut following the explosion that killed more than 220 people in the Lebanese capital.

The consignment was handed over to the Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB) in response to a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Anverally and Sons Ltd. is one of the top 10 exporters to Lebanon, a market it has served for more than a decade, dealing with long established partners in that country.

“The Beirut explosion was devastating to the people of Lebanon and deeply shocking to the world. As a company that has had a long relationship with the country, Anverally Teas responded immediately when we learnt that the Foreign Ministry was coordinating Sri Lankan relief assistance,” said Anverally & Sons Chairman Mohamed Anverally. “We grieve the loss of life in Beirut and assure the people of Lebanon that our thoughts are with them.”

Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman Jayampathy Molligoda said: “We commend Anverally Teas for its unhesitating and speedy response. These are difficult times for all businesses and we admire Anverally Teas for its generosity and commitment.” A Company that has made ‘giving back’ a key element of its social responsibility, Anverally & Sons has supported many worthy causes including the SOS Children’s Village, the Sri Lanka Cancer Society,  the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, the Peter Weerasekara Children’s Home, the Thotawatta Methodist College, the Gangarama Temple and the Sunshine Games organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan.

Established in 1890 by the great grandfather of the present Chairman, Anverally & Sons is a multi-Presidential Export Award winner and has won awards from the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE), the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Sri Lanka Tea Board in addition to being honoured at the Tea and Coffee Global Supplier Awards 2019/2020 in the UK.
