Diamond Cutters Ltd., a BOI registered company operating in the country for over three decades, donated a PCR machine to the Government/people of Sri Lanka at the Prime Minister’s office on 7 June.

Diamond Cutters, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of the Niru Group, handed over this machine as part of the ‘Niru Care’ program. This program is proactively administered by Chairman Ranjeet Barmecha from India and is rolled out on an annual basis across the globe.

This program is themed on the fundamentals of giving back to society, and has been providing educational support services for the past few years to under privileged children in Sri Lanka. This year an additional budget has been allocated to assist in the space of medical support services in Sri Lanka.

The handing over event was attended by Managing Director Sanjay Baid, Director Sambhav Baid and Finance Director Rajendra Samaranayaka from Diamond Cutters in the presence of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, PMO Chief of Staff Yoshitha Rajapaksa and CWC Vice President and Prime Minister’s Coordinating Secretary Senthil Thondaman at Temple Trees.

The machines would be placed and installed at the Diyathalawa Hospital on the recommendations of the health ministry and instructions of the Prime Minister.

As Sri Lanka has been severely hit by the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for testing, contact tracing and treatment plays an important role in the fight against this calamity. Thus the need for greater testing capacities of suspect cases was identified as the primary requirement which needed to be addressed.

Sanjay Baid stressed on the need to ensure we build a healthy society, and a stronger work force for the future, so that the country bounces back to normalcy and pave way to greater prosperity at the earliest. He informed the Prime Minister of the health precautions taken and the welfare activities afforded to the company’s work force during these days.

He also extended his gratitude to the valuable service extended by all the professionals in the health sector in Sri Lanka, who have been serving this nation tirelessly, while the Prime Minister along with Thondaman extended their appreciation to Baid and also invited him to make more investments in Sri Lanka to ensure greater exports and job opportunities to the eligible work force in Sri Lanka.
