Fashion Bug laid the pathway for the first School Green Garden Project, advocating the importance of environmental sustainability among the younger generation. The pilot project was conducted at Sunethra Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Pepiliyana, where the leading fashion retail brand provided 350 varieties of plants that consisted of vegetables, medicinal plants, ornamental and flower plants. In addition, Fashion Bug provided the necessary fertiliser and constructed the walking paths and overall landscaping.
The Green Garden Project was initiated as a response to the request made by the Principal of Sunethra Devi Balika Vidyalaya, with the objective of developing environment skills of students and helping them gain practical exposure in learning agricultural subjects. The project is also a part of one of the projects led by the Ministry of Education under the NCFSLM-BPP-1(2) program, and was executed under careful supervision of the management of Fashion Bug Ltd. “Environmental sustainability and nurturing the younger generation of our country are two very important focus areas for Fashion Bug,” explained Chief Executive Officer Shabier Subian. “With this project, we have been able to merge these areas and provide an enhanced Green Garden for the students to continue with their agricultural studies effectively. The project comes under Fashion Bug’s ‘Sisu Dirimaga’ program, a longstanding scheme that was developed by the management to uplift the younger generation of Sri Lanka,” he added.
Sisu Dirimaga conducts a variety of projects to develop knowledge, attitude and skills of students in Sri Lanka including donating computer labs, conducting student motivation and career guidance programs, teacher training programs, donation of resources and sponsorship for school sport events. The popular art competition ‘Roo Siththam’ is also a part of the Sisu Dirimaga program.
