GAIA Greenenergy Holdings, under the direction of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), recently donated a demonstration board for solar PV installations to the College of Technology, Kurunegala. The donation ceremony, held on the college premises, was attended by PUCSL Deputy Director (Licensing) Sameera Adhikaram, and Assistant Director (EER) Ramesh Chanchala, GAIA Greenenergy Holdings Chief Technology Officer Chathura Vidana Gamage, along with company representatives and students and staff of the Technical College.
The demonstration board, equipped essential accessories for solar PV installation including the inverter, will provide students with hands-on experience and practical knowledge required for field work. This initiative is part of a larger effort to equip vocational training centres and technical colleges with the necessary resources to obtain accreditation for offering National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 and 4 certification in solar PV technology.
Sharing his thoughts on the donation, GAIA Greenenergy Holdings Chief Technology Officer Chathura Vidana Gamage said: “We believe in empowering the next generation of solar technicians with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive Sri Lanka’s sustainable energy future. This donation represents our commitment to fostering a skilled workforce and supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector in the country. Our vision is ‘Building an Energy Independent Sri Lanka,’ and initiatives like this are crucial steps toward achieving that goal.”
PUCSL Assistant Director (EER) Ramesh Chanchala also shared his perspective on this donation: “The PUCSL is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards in the electricity industry. This donation by GAIA Greenenergy Holdings upon our request, greatly contributes to strengthening training infrastructure and providing valuable resources to aspiring solar PV technicians. This initiative is a significant step toward building a sustainable and skilled workforce for the renewable energy sector.”
Commenting on the impact of the donation, College of Technology, Kurunegala Director P. N. K. Gomas, stated: “This demonstration board will be an invaluable asset to our students, providing them with practical experience and enhancing their understanding of solar PV system installation. We are thankful to GAIA Greenenergy Holdings and the PUCSL for their support in equipping our students with the skills needed for a successful career in the renewable energy industry.”
