Home Lands Group Chairman Nalin Herath, has donated Rs. 7.5 million to the Base Hospital – Tangalle.

Base Hospital – Tangalle Medical Superintendent Dr. Dilka Saranasinghe received the cheque on behalf of the hospital.

Home Lands Group made the donation on 6 October at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Colombo 7. Youth and Sports Minister and Hambantota Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa attended the event.

Commenting on the donation, Herath said he believed his contribution would allow the new hospital building to offer the best facilities and the best care, transforming it to an even better level.

“The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that heroes are working every day in our hospitals. I’ve been so impressed and encouraged by our local hospital staff – they’ve not only continued pushing forward in these difficult times, but they’ve also been enhancing the care they give,” he added.

The donation is towards building an innovative new hospital building that will revolutionise and enhance the quality of health care in the region. It is proposed to be four storeys tall, with the ground and first floors dedicated to maternity and gynaecology patients, the second floor dedicated to the eye ward, and the third floor dedicated to the laboratory, with each ward housing 20 beds.

His efforts, it is hoped, will generate momentum among the community. “Our hospitals are the beating heart of our communities. They help all of us, so let us support them in return.”
