Lanka IOC contributes for cancer treatment

Lanka IOC PLC, the only listed and one of the largest private sector companies engaged in marketing of petroleum products is contributing immensely for upliftment of society through its CSR initiatives and has always been steadfast in coming forward for discharging responsibility towards the society. 

Keeping in view the fact that cancer is a leading cause of mortality in Sri Lanka, Lanka IOC contributed medicines for the treatment of cancer patients in Apeksha Hospital. 

The hospital has the capacity of treating 1,050 in-patients and is treating 700 out-patients in addition to over 60 operations per day with 200 radiation and chemotherapy each.

Apeksha Hospital Director Dr. Wasantha Dissanayake highlighted the sharp increase in the number of new cases reported during the recent years as on an average 25,000 new cancer patients reports for treatment at the hospital every year. Owing to the high incidence of oral cancer in our country, the economic costs associated with these diseases are enormous, resulting in negative impacts on both the healthcare systems and individual families. 

Dr. Dissanayake appreciated the efforts of Lanka IOC for the support and concern for the wellbeing and Lanka IOC MD Manoj Gupta assured the hospital authorities of its continued regular assistance to the best possible extent for the noble cause.

Lanka IOC is engaged in various CSR projects such as renovation of hospitals, free health screening camps, providing English education were carried out in the recent times with the intention of empowering and enhancing the lives of the underprivileged community. Environment protection is another such key area where Lanka IOC is taking steps for the sustainability development and in this regard tree plantations and beach cleaning programs are regularly being undertaken by the company.
