Since its inception, SDB bank has stood strong in the face of adversity and has time and again come forward in assisting the country in periods of crisis. Continuing this commitment toward social good, the bank and its employees came forward in contributing half a day’s salary to a dedicated COVID-19 fund initiated by the bank.

Their efforts and contributions helped in the purchase of an electric buggy car, which was donated to the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital. The Director of the hospital Dr. Priyantha Karunarathna said, “We are grateful to SDB bank for quickly fulfilling this urgent requirement of the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital, and this will no doubt assist greatly in our treatment of COVID-19 patients.”

The hospital had communicated an urgent requirement for an electric buggy car, in order to more efficiently transport patients from the admission point to the wards. Hospital staff had previously faced numerous difficulties in conveying the COVID-19 patients using wheelchairs and stretchers, due to the significant distance separating the admission point and the wards.  The Director of Mulleriyawa Base Hospital further mentioned that the electric buggy car would help save time and effort in affording treatment to COVID-19 patients, and the comfort of the electric buggy would also ease the patients’ passage to the wards.

The handover this morning involved the participation of Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, along with SDB bank’s CEO and several corporate management members. SDB bank CEO Thilak Piyadigama stated,

“It is extremely heartening to see how our employees have come forward to make generous contributions in aid of the country’s COVID-19 relief effort, and we are pleased to be able to help the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital as they tirelessly work to treat patients.”

The bank and its employees made a combined donation of funds in securing the electric buggy car. “SDB bank has a long tradition of promoting social good and initiating relief work countrywide, and I’m proud of our employees for their support during the current health crisis as well,” the CEO added.
