Sysco LABS Sri Lanka recently concluded the fifth phase of its flagship CSR initiative ‘Share a Meal, Share a Moment’ which supports the food and nourishment needs of underprivileged communities.
Phase 5 of the program was held in the Galle District, with dry rations and essential items donated to families in Benthara, Balapitiya, Ambalangoda and Kadawath Sathara.
‘Share a Meal, Share a Moment’ was launched in 2020 to provide food parcels and hampers to people adversely affected by challenging socioeconomic conditions. To date, the initiative has nourished over 35,000 people in the Colombo and Galle Districts. Sysco LABS intends to reach underprivileged communities in other rural districts in subsequent phases of the program.
Speaking on reaching Phase 5 of the initiative, Sysco LABS Associate Director – Property Gavi Perera said: “Share a Meal, Share a Moment is an initiative that’s very close to our hearts and was initiated to assist underprivileged communities with their immediate nutritional needs. It is a company-wide effort to supply food to identified communities, with our associates also donating their personal funds to maximise impact. Despite different logistical challenges this year, we are glad to have been able to expand beyond Colombo and hope to reach communities in other remote areas of the country in the future.”
The Share a Meal Share a Moment initiative is inspired by Sysco’s ‘200 million meals’ sustainability goal which aims to assist those in need across Sysco’s global communities.
Commenting on the initiative’s roots and connection to Sysco’s global program, Sysco LABS Director – Marketing Kushani Kalpage said, “As the captive innovation centre of the world’s largest foodservice company, nourishing communities is in our DNA, it’s why we exist. In the spirit of our purpose of connecting the world to share food and care for one another, we launched the Share a Meal, Share a Moment initiative to support families in need. It’s an effort we are all passionate about and operates in parallel to the other community initiatives we have, to provide relief to people undergoing various hardships. We are committed towards maximising our resources to care for our communities and uplift lives.”
