To the drought affected people in the Polonnaruwa district it was as if a miracle had happened on Sunday 10 August 2014, when a convoy of a 40 foot container, nine large lorries and a bus load of over 50,000 litres of pure drinking water arrived from Colombo with love and care from Abans. This caring and meaningful CSR Project of Abans was painstakingly organised by ABS Gardner Dixon Hall Ltd, the advertising agency of the Abans Group with magnanimous support from the entire Abans Group of companies and the general public of Sri Lanka who rallied round to assist this worthy cause irrespective of caste, creed or religion and help their brothers and sisters in their time of need. The organisers convey their special thanks for their support to The Board of Directors and staff of Abans Group, Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association, Lyceum International School Wattala, Sampath Bank Finance and Planning Department, PCC Professional Quantity Surveyors and Cost Consultants, Minuwangoda, The Rock Hotel-Nuwara Eliya, Employees of Wavenet International Ltd., Huawei Technologies Ltd, The Moratuwa Social Service Society and the general public. The humanitarian convoy first stopped at Madirigiriya Base Hospital where they unloaded three 1,000 litre water tanks in addition to thousands of 5 litres, 7 litres and 10 litres water bottles. They also gave water bottles to every patient at the hospital and in addition distributed water bottles to the large number of persons who had queued up and were fighting and clamouring for drinking water. The next stop was Sri Shanthi Viharaya in Samagipura where a 1,000 litre water tank and thousands of water bottles were handed over to the chief incumbent and also water bottles were distributed to the large number of people that had gathered. The convoy then proceeded to site of Hunugampitiya Viharaya and handed over a 1,000 litre water tank and a large quantity of water bottles in assorted capacities and also satisfied the crowd who were begging and pleading for water. A 1,000 litre water tank and thousands of water bottles of assorted capacity was also handed over to the chief priest of Divulankadawela Udayagiri Viharaya while water bottles were distributed to the people who had gathered. Water was also distributed to large crowds of people in Madirigiriya, Atambagahawela, Samagipura, Kavudulugama and Hunugampitiya 4 and 8. As the convoy proceeded from one place to another, they kept distributing water bottles to people on the way. At all locations where water was distributed, the people openly expressed and chanted their blessing to Abans. It was the general opinion amongst those to whom water was handed over that this was the first time that anyone had provided such a large quantity. Most organisations and people who came distributed only a few bottles of water which was barely inadequate. It was evident that this project was a blessing to the people of Polonnaruwa District which gave the organisers a sense of immense satisfaction. Abans, care for the people and carry out very meaningful CSR projects from time to time and are the first to rally round with assistance whenever there is a natural disaster.
