Abans successfully completed another worthwhile CSR project, a Blood Donation Campaign, on Tuesday 20 January at Abans Head Office, 498, Galle Road, Colombo 3. This is the ninth consecutive year that Abans Dealer Channel, under the purview of General Manager Laleendra Brahmana, has conducted a blood donation campaign where the staff of Abans large workforce as well as public donated blood for emergency requirements by the National Blood Bank. Dr. Roshane De Silva assisted by his team from the National Blood Bank worked tirelessly from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate the large number who volunteered to donate blood. However, due to lack of time they were only able to receive a pint of blood each from 145 persons. All volunteer blood donors were served with refreshments and were given a token gift.     Blood is always required by the National Blood Bank and is in constant demand for accident victims, hemophiliacs, surgeries, infants, patients battling cancer, etc. Blood is a product that cannot be manufactured and there is no substitute for it. Moreover, the National Blood Bank has to replenish blood supplies constantly as blood has a very short shelf life. Therefore, blood donation campaigns organised by public and Government institutions are always welcome and provide urgently required life-giving blood.     In the year 2013, Abans was commended by the former President as Blood Donation Campaign Organiser for conducting such worthy and meaningful CSR initiatives on the World Blood Donor Day, which was held at temple trees. The contribution that the company made for the altruistic humanitarian mission of saving lives by donating blood was recognised with appreciative plaque. Abans is the first to rally round whenever there is a natural disaster in the country such as droughts and floods. The organisers wish to express their sincere thanks to all those volunteers who donated blood and helped in this altruistic humanitarian cause.
